The Mandylion icon

Despite the many variations in circulation, the legend goes approximately that Christ pressed his face into a towel, for King Abgar of Edessa (Syria) to cure him of his illness. Possibly because the painter sent along could not paint his portrait. In 544, this towel was discovered behind stones in the city wall of Edessa. In 944, the towel was transferred to Constantinople, but after the conquest of this city by the armies of the fourth crusade (1204), it disappeared without a trace.

Was the Son of God really human? Yes, this is what the Christian faith says. And this Mandylion is as it were the argument that He lived as man = and this His portrait.
